Dr. Garold D. Oberlender Retires after 35 Years
An era is coming to an end in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVE) at OSU. Dr. Garold D. Oberlender has retiring after 35 years of service to the Construction Management area of the School. During his time on the School faculty, Dr. Oberlender has served on the committees of 314 graduate students and touched the lives of the undergraduates who have spent time in the School during their college careers. He is known throughout the world as one of the authorities on Construction Engineering and Project Management. He has three books published by McGraw-Hill. We are going to miss his service to both the faculty and the students.
A reception was held in Dr. Oberlender's honor at Meditations on Saturday, June 13th. A Scholarsip fund has been established in his name and will be accepting donations through the OSU Foundation. For more information in regards to the scholarship, go to the Give to CIVE link on the main menu.


Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology has awarded Civil Engineering student, Eric Kim, with their 12-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship for 2009. Eric will spend his summer break at the NIST laboratories in Gaiithersburg, MD.
Sarah Cary Selected as the Women of OSU's
Student Phiolanthropist of the Year

The Women of OSU has selected Sarah Cary as Student Philanthropist of the Year. The Award was established to recognize students who have distinguished themself as a philanthropist through involvement at OSU and the community.
Sarah was nominated primarily for her work as a Project Manager for Engineers Without Borders. Engineers Without Borders supports community-driven development projects worldwide through the design and implementation of sustainable engineering projects. She wa responsible for establishing the EWB program at OSU and getting ir nationally recognized. As president and project manager of EWB, Sarah has examined projects in Bolivia and South Africia, and has decided to start in Honduras with a project building dorms to house doctors, dentists and instructors. Her enthusiasm with EWB has resulted in a professional chapter opening in Tulsa.
In recognition of Sarah's leadership and philanthropy, the Women for OSU's Leadership and Philanthrophy Council presented her with a scholarship and an award for her philanthropic achievements. CLICK HERE to view the article in the Fall 2009 Edition of STATE Magazine.
